Welding fume extraction torches for robotic welding
Even in a production hall with welding robots, workers are exposed to harmful fumes. However, robot torches with extraction at source from ABICOR BINZEL keep the surrounding air cleaner than any hall ventilation system.
Features
Features of our welding fume extraction torches for robotic welding – available as a torch-integrated extraction system or as an extraction kit that can be mounted on any standard robotic torch neck:
- With a connected high-vacuum system
- Capture up to 99 % of the emitted fumes, depending on the angle of attack (optimal: PA or PB)
- Liquid cooled up to 550 A CO2, 500 A mixed gas (torch for extraction at source)
- Gas cooled up to 500 A CO2, 400 A mixed gas (torch for extraction at source)
- Extraction kit: captures up to 95 % of fumes at just 50 mbar

FAQs
Extraction at source, which extracts fumes directly at the weld seam, is considered a particularly efficient method of welding fume extraction. The resulting welding fumes are extracted immediately at the source, before they can spread throughout the welding cell or production hall. This significantly reduces the concentration of fumes in the air and increases the efficiency of the extraction system. Solutions such as the xFUME® ROBO extraction kit or the xFUME® ABIROB® extraction torches from ABICOR BINZEL were developed specifically for this type of welding fume extraction during robotic welding.
For MIG/MAG welding robots or cobot welding robots that are already installed, extraction torches designed specifically for robots, as well as retrofit solutions, are available. The xFUME® ROBO extraction kit can be integrated into conventional robotic welding systems and enables efficient extraction at source. Companies already using ABIROB® robotic torches from ABICOR BINZEL can also upgrade them to xFUME® ABIROB® extraction torches. The existing tool center point (TCP) is retained, thereby avoiding time-consuming adjustments to the robot programming.
A sustainable improvement in air quality is achieved through the direct welding fume extraction at the source. While central exhaust systems remove air from the welding cell, extraction at source captures welding fumes directly at the welding point. As a result, significantly less fume enters the ambient air. People working in the vicinity are thus significantly better protected from the harmful fumes than they would be in robotic cells with stationary welding fume extraction or general hall ventilation.
An effective welding fume extraction system helps improve air quality in the production area and reduce exposure to welding fumes in the work environment. This particularly benefits employees who load, monitor, or maintain robotic cells and are regularly in close proximity to them. Companies can thus offer better working conditions and position themselves as attractive employers. Modern extraction at source systems capture welding fumes directly at the point of generation and prevent fume particles from spreading uncontrollably throughout the production hall.
A professionally designed welding fume extraction system must not compromise the quality of the weld. Such welding fume extraction systems capture as much welding fume as possible while ensuring that the required shielding gas coverage is unaffected.
