On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Alexander Binzel Schweisstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, worldwide active under the brand ABICOR, the ABICOR Innovation Award was founded in 1995. Object of the with 10.000 € remunerated award is the intense promotion of the research and development on the field of arc welding and cutting. The presentation of award is every second year. Especially young people from science and economy should be supported and stimulated to present their innovative developments to a large expert audience.

The presentation of the award takes place by the DVS, who has entrusted an independent jury of well-known scientists, specialists from industry and DVS who judge the submitted works. The first presentation of the ABICOR Innovation Award was in 1997, on the occasion of the event for the 100th anniversary of the DVS.
